I have been preoccupied with many things for a few weeks, which meant that I was not able to post anything on my blog. But, that did not mean that my camera was idle all this time. Only that I was not getting time to sit down and process the photographs I had taken. And, I am sure you would agree that sometimes deciding what to post and post processing is a tougher task.
Today’s post is about the Sunday Morning Pet Market of Galif Street about which, I am sure, many Kolkatans also do not know!
Galif Street is in the northern part of the city. On weekdays, it is just like any other nondescript street whose only importance is due to the Tram Depot it houses. But, come Sunday morning, people from different parts of the city and even far-flung places come down to the place for the largest pet market in the state. It is actually a grey market and the prices may seem like a steal, but the pets are not always in ship-shape.
However, it is a treat to the eyes, and I decided to visit the place one Sunday. Here are some of the actions from the market….
This is how the street looks early in the morning.

The Shoppers Arrive….
So does the Tram…
I have put the rest of the Photographs in a Gallery…
Hope you enjoyed the tour of the Sunday Pet Market of Galif Street.
Awesome find and clicks. I, however, feel sorry for these birds and animals.
Thank you very much Swati Di! I agree…One can’t help but feel sorry for the poor things!
Pity the animals aren’t better looked after and in better shape. Your shots however are definitely ship-shape. Fantastic! 🙂
Thanks a lot Elizabeth!! 🙂 I love animals(including human beings) but don’t like the idea of them being imprisoned…
Excellent documentary. I would keep a special eye on Fishing Family and 0120.jpg (3rd from top) – i feel those photos will go a long way, buddy. Very, very good job!
Grazie Mille Alessandro!! ( hope i got it right) 😀 Really really happy that you like them! 🙂
Wonderful, interesting photos.
Thank you sooo much!! And thanks for the re-blog! 🙂

Oh!! thank you so much!!! I am really honored! 🙂
Pets & PETA don’t get along too well I presume 🙂
haha…very true 🙂
Wonderful photos! The colors are just delicious – good post prossesing 😉 and those little rabbits 😀 I had an albino rabbit one when I was 9! I’m a puddle of ‘aww’ right now!
Also, I see your blog has a new look! And while I love it, I think the posts would benefit from a lighter text! Maybe, it’s the resolution/colors/something on my very old mac, but it’s quite hard to read when both the background and the text are so dark…
I cant thank you enough for pointing out about the font color…you know what? I wanted a theme which similar to yours and hence selected this one, but since my tech- savviness is limited only to my camera ( 😀 ) i havent been able to improve its appearance much..btw i have changed the font color to white…hope it is visible now…
Albino rabbit? Now, that’s one brand ambassador Tide detergent people would love to have!! 🙂 Thanks for liking! 🙂
I prefer the streets before it’s crowded with people!
Same here!! Unless of course, it is the crowd which I want to photograph! Thanks for stopping by… 🙂
