1st May, I read recently in a blog I follow, is apparently considered as the official first day of Spring in England. But, in the former capital of one of its former colonies, it is very much sweltering summer, with temperatures hovering near mid-thirties in degrees Celsius! But, an early morning walk in Maidan (literally large open field) is very pleasant, as I discovered the last weekend. The last time I had taken my camera to the Maidan was on a foggy winter morning.
In case you are not familiar with Kolkata, I should add that it is the only city in India, which still has a tramcar service. In fact, it is the oldest operating Tram service in Asia, formed way back in 1880. The first electrified trams ran in 1902. But, successive governments have shown no interest in modernising it, which means, it is not very popular as a mode of transport. But, it is fun to take an occasional ride in a tram.
Hope you enjoyed the early morning view of spring, or its apology, here in Kolkata 🙂
